Seattle Childrens Hospital is Hiring a Research Scientist III Near Seattle, WA

Responsibilities

Tuberculosis remains a serious global health problem, and there is an urgent need for new therapeutic agents. Work within our group focusses on the development of new anti-tubercular agents. The Parish Lab is looking for a highly qualified scientist to manage core biological assays required to support a tuberculosis drug discovery effort. The candidate will manage a team of research associates running weekly assays supporting projects aimed at developing new drugs for tuberculosis. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and running a set of high/medium throughput assays delivering weekly datasets for novel molecules. Work will also include developing and implementing new assays.Please note: there are three postings, but only one position is currently available. The candidate will be appointed on the Research Lab Supervisor (2024-52832) or Research Scientist III or IV (2024-52830 or 2024-52831) track depending on qualifications and experience.Learn more about the Parish Lab: https://www.seattlechildrens.org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/parish-lab/

Duties:• Organize and direct the day-to-day activities of the core team, including supervising and training personnel.• Develop new assays for high throughput screening including the automation of biochemical and cell-based assays and guide process development.• Run a set of validated high/medium throughput assays including bacterial and eukaryotic cell assays.• Deliver weekly datasets and reports for new molecules.• Plan and design experimental methods.• Compile and analyze scientific data.• Oversee quality control and data integrity.• Establish and maintain the compound repository.• Manage the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for compound-related data.• Maintain laboratory automation and robotics in good working order.• Engineer custom instruments and software components.• Investigate and implement new methodologies.• Develop protocols and perform experiments.• Troubleshoot and solve technical problems.• Assist with preparation of research reports, publications and presentations.

Requirements

Required Education/Experience:

  • • PhD degree level in applicable science field/related field OR
  • • Master's degree in applicable science field/ related field plus minimum three (3) years of related experience OR
  • • Bachelor's degree or higher in applicable science field/related field plus minimum five (5) years of related experience with a robust publication record.
  • • Related work experience varies by lab/position, as it relates to the research projects and research field assigned to this position.

Skills:

• Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.• Experience in assay development and validation using automated equipment.• Experience with data handling and laboratory information management systems.• Ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects; flexibility in performing multiple tasks.• Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills.• Ability to work with co-workers and outside agencies professionally.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to motivate self.• Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.• Ability to maintain good laboratory records.• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with co-workers effectively.

Preferred experience:• PhD or MD and 4 years of related experience.

• Prior experience in a supervisory role a plus.

Min to Max Hourly Salary

$36.75 - $55.12 /hr

Min to Max Annual Salary

$76,440.00 - $114,649.60 /yr

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
